We are delighted to support Bethesda Eventide Homes in Ipswich with its fundraising this year as their 26 residents, mostly aged over 90, attempt a sponsored walk of 1908 miles to Lapland by Christmas!
"Normally at this time of year we would be preparing for our annual fundraising event, the Christmas Fayre. For obvious reasons this cannot happen, so we have had to put our thinking caps on," explains Rachel Gooding, Administration Assistant at the home. "To give the residents a boost and some much needed exercise, we have decided to do a sponsored walk the equivalent of walking to Lapland. That's 1908 miles or 3,816,000 steps."
The challenge is spread among residents and staff and only includes steps taken within the home. The challenge started on 1 October to be completed by Christmas Eve.
"Clearly 2020 has been a difficult year for everyone, particularly those shielding in residential care homes," said Chris Joberns, Managing director at Strident. "We are delighted to support them in their challenge."
