Secure web conferencing with Teams

The growth in web conferencing has been dramatic in light of the movement restrictions around the world. But is your conversation secure?

Microsoft Teams has been built on privacy and security and there are controls to allow you to manage who participates in your meetings and who has access to meeting information. For example, when a meeting is recorded, all participants are notified when a recording starts. Recordings are stored in a controlled repository that is protected by permissions and encryption.

Microsoft states "We never use your Teams data to serve you ads. We do not track participant attention or multi-tasking in Teams meetings. Your data is deleted after the termination or expiration of your subscription."

Teams and Stream

Microsoft Stream, part of Microsoft 365, is a great complement to Teams, allowing you to store and share video in an easy-to-navigate library. Stream is intended for internal use only (although the ability to share externally is on the roadmap), so once a user has created a video and uploaded it to Stream, strong security controls how the video is shared, allowing the creator to choose which colleagues can view it.

Stream's speech-to-text automatically transcribes what is said in the video and produces a searchable text file with time stamps linked to the video. This allows you to search for a particular term in the video and then jump directly to that portion of the video.

Stream also allows you to upload your video tutorials or onboarding videos. Step-by-step guides and tutorials are more engaging and enable the viewer to pause and rewind as necessary. It should be noted that Stream is not recording software and you would have to use another application.
