Migrate your 2008 server applications to Azure now

If your business is running Windows Server 2008, it's time to move your business applications. On 14 January 2020 support will end and there will be no more security updates.

Obviously, the lack of security updates exposes your business and your customers to increasing threats as time goes on. Under the Data Protection Act 2018, you have a legal requirement to ensure your data is as safe as it reasonably can be.

Option 1: Moving to Microsoft Azure cloud with extended security

As support ends, now is a good time to review your options and plan for the future, and that may include migrating your 2008 applications and data to Azure, Microsoft's cloud platform.

Microsoft is keen for businesses to take this approach and it is offering Free Extended Security Updates for three more years. Move your Windows Server 2008 applications to Azure, with no application code changes, and you get the three more years of security updates free.

Taking this approach gets your business applications into the cloud, bringing with it the benefits of accessibility and flexibility to work from different locations and devices.

Option 2: Upgrade on-premises and plan for cloud

If you're not ready to move to the cloud yet, then upgrading to cloud-ready Windows Server 2016 or 2019 is the best solution for security, performance and features.

These server packages have built-in hybrid cloud capabilities. This enables you to take advantages of some cloud benefits, such as off-site backup and high availability, with a view to more easily migrating to the cloud at a later date.
