Posted on: 07 Apr 16

Geocurve Ltd is a team of specialist surveyors and unmanned aerial vehicle (UAVs) operators. With an impressive client list that includes the Environment Agency, National Grid, the RSPB and Anglian Water, Geocurve carries out hydrographical, topographical and inspection surveys for a wide variety of services from river profiling and structural deformation monitoring to inspections of sea defences or offshore wind turbines.

"With a team of 8 engineers, 2 data analysts, 6 UAV pilots, 1 pilot, 2 boat operators and a chartered engineer working on projects across the country, flexibility and reliability are key requirements. Users need to be able to access email and data easily either in the office, out in the field or presenting results and findings to clients. We are a very data intensive business so it's essential that our IT systems are fast and reliable," explains Perran Bonner, managing director at Geocurve.

Geocurve chose Microsoft Office 365 to provide a robust cloud-based system that would grow with the company's needs. Originally implemented by Geocurve, Strident carried out a full IT audit was able to provide the same Office 365 solution in a more cost-effective manner as well as provide IT support to the users. "We predominantly use the email system, which provides huge capacity and security of having the data off-site. It means we don't have to run a mail server or worry about backing it up.

"As part of Office 365, all our users have access to the latest version of the Office suite as well as One Drive, Microsoft's online storage system. This allows users to synchronise files to laptops and tablets, ideal when collecting or presenting data out in the field or at client sites," adds Perran.

Office 365 business-class email, with 50Gb of storage per user and secure backup, is clearly the key draw for businesses but once installed, many are seeing additional benefits. "Like many modern businesses, my colleagues and I find ourselves out of the office as much as we are at our desks. The ability to remain connected to colleagues and customers as well as access data securely online is essential. Office 365 gives us that ability and, working with Strident, gives us a system that we can develop as our business grows."

As Office 365's suite of business tools expands, including the development of services such as Skype for Business, businesses like Geocurve are well-positioned to operate more efficiently and offer ever-improving customer experience.
