Castons is a professional practice providing high quality consultancy advice to clients involved in property and construction. Services include cost management, project management, building surveying, employer’s agent, CDM consultant and other specialist expertise. Central to Castons’ administration is Caspa, a bespoke information and project management system, that allows all of the company’s business information to be organised and managed.
“Caspa started life more than 10 years ago, written to meet the needs of Castons without adding unnecessary complexity and overheads to our business. We use it to track all our projects and associated information such as, project costs, key project milestones and project contacts,” explains James Loveland, Quantity Surveyor for Castons.
Every project has a job number created by Caspa and, with all information tied together, jobs can be easily monitored and reviewed. “It has also become our database for managing our archive of hard documents. We use Caspa to search for cost information on previous projects which is invaluable when producing construction budgets for new projects,” adds James.
Although the software had been updated, Castons wanted to add significant new features helping the business work more efficiently and grow further.
Castons did review other industry-specific software however it did not meet their needs. “We wanted software that would work for us. We looked at complex systems which did many things we didn’t need and would require expensive additional resources and manpower,” adds James. Strident recommended updating the existing Caspa system, building a foundation that would allow it to be extended and developed in the future.
Although Caspa is hosted on an office-based server, the system is delivered using web-based technologies.
Moving to a newer platform will enable Caspa’s features to be more easily extended and deployed. As Caspa is built on web technologies, it could be moved to the cloud and accessed from any device, providing further flexibility in the future.
“We are very happy with the performance of the application. Working with Strident, we will develop Caspa on a continuous basis, adding new features and processes as determined by the needs of the business,” says James.
